CAN VOCS HELP PARENTS WHO ARE LOOKING FOR CHILD CARE?
Child Care is one of the most important choices parents make. Each family has different needs. VOCS helps families better understand their child care options and assist parents in developing their individualized child care plan for finding child care that is best for them! See How to Choose Child Care for some quick tips, our Subsidized Child Care Handouts and our Directory of Child Care and Family Related Services for a list of community resources.
WHY CHOOSING QUALITY CHILD CARE IS IMPORTANT
The early years of a child’s life are critical because they lay the foundation for cognitive functioning; behavioral, social and self-regulatory skills. From birth to beginning school, children develop rapidly. Ninety percent of brain development occurs by age 5, so the setting in which child care is provided is very important and can have a life-long impact. Valley Oak’s R & R Specialists have a background in child development and are here to help! Our R & R Specialist offer consumer education, information on Steps to Choosing Child Care, a list of questions to ask prospective child care programs trainings and workshops, nutrition programs, a community resource lending library, and a Safety Program. We strive to offer services that are unique to our community and meet local needs.

HOW DO CHILD CARE REFERRALS WORK?
When a request for child care comes, VOCS will gather information about the family, including name, address, phone number, child’s age, request of hours, and location needed. The R & R Specialist will gather as much information about the families' need, including transportation, special needs, types of programs of interest, in order to help the family understand their child care options and in developing their individualized child care plan.
CAN VOCS ASSIST PARENTS IN FINDING PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT GO BEYOND CHILD CARE?
YES! Valley Oak offers parents information about other programs and services they might need. An R & R Specialist might cover financial assistance to pay for child care, advocacy for increased funding for child care, child care ratios and licensing regulations. The R & R Specialist might also provide information on family support services or community resources specific to a family’s needs, health & safety information, Covered Ca enrollemnt assistance or PG&E Care application assistance. R&Rs can even help parents find summer camps or other family-oriented activities in Butte County.
