Child Care Food Program
What is the Child Care Food Program?The Child Care Food Program is a USDA program designed to help children in child care receive nutritious, well balanced meals. Providing meals is often one of the biggest expenses involved in child care. The Child Care
Food Program is intended to assist with this cost so that
providers can serve children meals which will keep them
healthy and growing. What are the Benefits of the Program?The Child Care Food Program offers cash reimbursements to family child care providers for the meals they serve children. The meals must meet standards set by the USDA. Providers can be reimbursed for two main meals (breakfast, lunch, or supper), and one snack per child per day or two snacks and one main meal per child per day. You will also receive information on nutrition and menu planning through home visits scheduled every few months during the year. The Food Program also has a resource lending library that has books, toys, games, etc. relating to food and nutrition. Is There A Lot of Paperwork? You must keep daily records of the foods served and the children present for each meal. You can either choose to keep track using easy to fill out scannable forms or you can submit online! Either way it should only require a few minutes a day to keep up on the record keeping. How Can I Get Started? In order to participate you must be a licensed family child care provider, or a Trustlined exempt provider. After you have become licensed or cleared the Trustline process a Child Care Food Program monitor will come to your home to do an orientation. During this orientation the monitor will cover in detail all of the regulations required to participate in the program. In most cases you can start claiming meals that day.
