About Us

Valley Oak Children’s Services, Inc. is a private non-profit agency serving Butte County. Our primary function is to support, empower and advocate for children, families and child care providers through education, resources, and the promotion of quality child care services. Valley Oak Children’s Services provides advocacy for children, parents and child care providers. The Child Development Division of the California State Department of Education has contracted with us to provide the following child and family related services.   • Child Care Food Program reimburses licensed and exempt family child care providers for nutritious meals served to children enrolled in their program (Butte, Glenn, and areas of Sutter and Yuba Counties). Call 895-0561 or (800) 273-5343.
  • Child Care Payment Program is designed to help eligible families with child care costs while parents are working, seeking employment or enrolled in a school/training program. Families where children have been identified as being at risk of abuse or neglect may also be eligible. Call 895-3572 or (800) 345-8627.
  • Resource and Referral Program provides the following services:
    • Referrals to licensed family child care homes, child care centers, exempt (from licensing) situations and subsidized programs. (Valley Oak Children’s Services offers referrals only and not recommendations, as we feel parents can best determine what is appropriate care for their children.) Call 895-3572 or (800) 345-8627.
    • Information about child and family related services and employer supported child care.

    • Technical Assistance services regarding the business aspects of child care, licensing, start up procedures, child care inclusion issues, behavioral health issues and child related legislation.
    • A Lending Library which includes assorted resource materials, books and equipment that are available for loan at two week intervals. The mobile lending library delivers items to child care providers in our service area.
    • Workshops for parents and child care providers.
  • The Valley Oak Exchange, a free quarterly newsletter that covers child care news and information on a local, state and national level.
